3rd DFOG to kDNF

Any Italic texts are Translator's Note.

1. What makes a famous player famous...? Do you know of well known subclass players that have large influence when providing feedback to Neople? How did they come onto the scene and are they still in relevance today? – DFOG Gespar, Rec’d 7 Times

*ToJ King – Famous for hard trolling, Traitor of Monks. – Ruliweb Nickname Godho(갓호), Rec’d 5 Times
[*ToJ King(심회왕): Monk player who was known to focus on Twister of Judgment. He’s believed to be culprit of one who messed up Monk Chronicle Revamp for his own fun.]

If someone put up informative posts consistently then he/she becomes famous as a cool guy, but if someone shits all over the place then he/she becomes famous for worst deeds ever. Same applies in Korea.
Example of former would be ‘*Chamunhi(채문희)’ who’s famous as Hellcat. As for latter, I don’t think there’s point of informing you about street dust, so I’ll end here. – Ruliweb Nickname TarotTarotCard(타로타로카드), Rec’d 2 Times

[*Chamunhi(채문희): Famous Female Brawler player. He focused heavily on STR stat since back in S1 era. His tendency of focusing on STR as Brawler and combat style of making use of Striker moves (as Brawler was on bottom of the tier list back then) earned his Brawler a nickname of ‘독피언(Dokpion. Lit. combined word of Poison and Champion)’.]

In Korean standard, I think Time Attack would be the biggest factor. Also, a player with a lot of Epic Gears.
Aside from those two… Those who writes guides and analyze post becomes little popular, but not as ones with those two above. – Ruliweb Nickname Aquaª, Rec’d 0 Time, Earliest among response with same number of rec.

2. What do you consider as the golden age of DFO, is it just simply before the Kiri's promise incident happened? – DFOG LukewarmHoliday, Rec’d 5 Times

Second Impact before Kiri’s PnB. Back then in pretty much every PC Café, you played either DNF or Chaos [AOS styled map of Warcraft III]. (You can say it as Super Bowl of NA Sports) It was so famous that ‘Common~’ Expression from DNF actually made its way out of game and became commonly used expression in society. As Economy completely broke down after PnB, literally 90% or more population left this game, and we still haven’t recovered from those impact.  – Ruliweb Nickname SodiumChloride(소듐클로라이드), Rec’d 5 Times

Obviously Pre-Kiri’s PnB…
I think Second Impact was the true Zenith. - Ruliweb Nickname Aquaª, Rec’d 2 Times

YES YES YES...OH MY GOD... - Ruliweb Nickname Godho(갓호), Rec’d 0 Time, First Response
[Didn’t need to translate. This is original comment.]

3. What are your opinions on Male Mage, do you think people would go back to play Male Mage if he got the last 2 subclasses? – DFOG Highwind, Rec’d 3 Times, Fastest among questions with same number of rec.

In so-called Otaku Culture, Female has whole lot better ‘Purchasing Power’. Neople, seeing that, created Male Mages, but thanks to very narrow avatar pool Neople couldn’t expect any more income from it, not to mention there weren’t many female players in DNF itself. Thus, they went on for other subclasseses of Female Slayer, which made unprecedented big hit. On top of that, pre-New Balance Male Mages had horrible pre, after-delay, and skill radius that it was hard to raise one. For Glacial Master it was ‘problem solved’ with 9 piece set of Ice Floral Hell, as well as release of new Skill ‘Buster’, but EB had no answer. Those various reasons caused player pool of new character to shrink, and as of now [in terms of player pool] it could match that of Thieves, which got hit hard by nerfs.
Even if those 2 remaining subclasses come out as OP IMBA like Kunoich, existing Male Mages wouldn’t be as popular, and only new character will shine. – Ruliweb Nickname SodiumChloride(소듐클로라이드), Rec’d 4 Times

During Arad Reporter Regularly Meeting, one big lady got to mic and started her speech with following line.
“I started playing DNF because of Male mage, you know?”
Arad is peaceful today thanks to those Yaoi Fandom. – Ruliweb Nickname Kimchisa(김치사), Rec’d 4 Times

Think they [Male Mage] are loved, but even if they return to them, I expect they will be abandoned again. – Ruliweb Nickname Godho(갓호), Rec’d 0 Time, Earliest among response with same number of rec.

4. What is the general consensus among the Korean community on which classes are fun? – DFON FinanceFighter, Rec’d 7 Times.

The most powerful OP character right after balance revamp. – Ruliweb Nickname Kimchisa(김치사), Rec’d 4 Times

Generally in terms of being fun, I think Rogue, Battle Mage, and Monks are often considered so. - Ruliweb Nickname Aquaª, Rec’d 2 Times

Character you fell in love at a first glance. – Ruliweb Nickname Final2, Rec’d 1 Time

5. Which class would you want to see buffed or re-balanced and why? – DFON Hakumen, Rec’d 6 Times

Wildcat.
I thought there was no more room for nerf, but I was shocked when I saw them nerfing Needles. – Ruliweb Nickname xMad, Rec’d 4 Times.

Exorcist, They went through enough of shits… – Ruliweb Nickname Godho(갓호), Rec’d 3 Times

Blade God.
Because I think he would be within top 3 in terms of period they stayed in bottom of tier list. – Ruliweb Nickname Hyulick(휴릭), Rec’d 1 Time

6. Which events that have been released in KDNF only once would you like to see again in KDNF and why? – DFON Chaz, Rec’d 4 Times.

GTA Event
Reason: Free Refine, Reinforce, Amplification. – Ruliweb Nickname LightTwins (라이트트윈스), Rec’d 4 Times

I can’t exactly remember when it was, but there was Chuseok event where Free Pass Songpyeon made its first appearance.
Back then they also gave away legacy weapons which allowed light players to do hell party runs without much of investment, while also decreading price of legacy weapons-which were fine weapons back then-made players life little easier on raising sub characters. – Ruliweb Nickname Aquaª, Rec’d 3 Times

Happy 6th anniversary DNF Event, as it was the last event before Kiri’s Trust and Belief… – Ruliweb Nickname Godho(갓호), Rec’d 0 Time, Earliest among response with same number of rec.

7. Is Male Grappler weak? – DFON Enoch the Fierce, Rec’d 3 Times.

Yes. – Ruliweb Nickname Ranka Lee(란카 ), Rec’d 8 Times

Think they are stronger than what people think. But doesn’t mean they are powerful.  – Ruliweb Nickname Godho(갓호), Rec’d 1 Time

Skills have a lot of problems before saying whether they are strong or not, but to tell whether they are strong or not, I think they are weak. - Ruliweb Nickname Aquaª, Rec’d 0 Time, Earliest among response with same number of rec.

1st DFOG to kDNF

First DFOG to kDNF (Back then it was called DFO to kDNF) happened in DFO Core, which is now gone. Also, it was before official launch of DFOG.

Any Italic texts are Translator's Note.

1. How well do you (the kDNF players) think Neople is equipped to manage a global version of DnF as their first solo publishing project? How successful do you think they will be in spreading the word about the game's revival in order to create a successful game launch and maintaining a healthy number of players to sustain the game's existence?

Management
Their management ability is next to worst,
but since they will amend their move based on test(?) result in Korean Server
there won’t be chaos like that of early Korean server, I think.

Launching
I’m not sure about their advertising ability.
However, looking at all those items they update in Korean server
we can tell that they are mad for cash. – Ruliweb Nickname Siriyael (시리야엘)

I heard DFO NA’s managed by Neople themselves so it might be better than that of Korean but, don’t expect too much. There’s reason why they are called ‘Brainless’ in Korea. – Ruliweb Nickname Curtis .556
[T/N: One of Neople’s nickname from their Korean player is 뇌없플, which is pretty much shortened word for Brainless Neople (뇌없플 and 네오플 has pretty similar sound when read in Korean).]

Since this is something that’s prepared within Neople, I don’t think there’s a way for user to experience it.
To run Global version of DNF, they will have to work on localization for each regions but as long as Neople doesn’t reveal their work we have no idea about it.
One of the way to determine whether this will succeed or not would be see if how well it[this game] worked in existing market , and how well will it go with future market, better it goes well, higher the projected success chance, I think.
As of now, DNF in Korea is a game that was on top once, and one could say such popularity was backed by some factors like being the last 2D Dot image based game that brings up nostalgia, in-game world lore and character lore that reflects each players’ flavor, and many accumulated and polished contents over long time.
Of course, although as of now we have serious problem with terrible management as well as rushed and unpolished contents (Anton, Female Mage 2nd Awakening, etc), with existing contents alone I think they will succeed for sure – Ruliweb Nickname Jariche. (자리체.)

2. What do you like about DnF? What are the aspects that you would tell someone if you were to recommend the game to them? What do you believe separates DnF from other games?

As of now DNF is only 2D Side-scroll Action game. This is only thing to do as there’s no replacement. – Ruliweb Nickname Galapagoensis (갈라파고엔시스)

This is only thing to do and there are things I already invested into this… On top of that, I play because there’s Female Gunner who shoots gun. – Ruliweb Nickname fazzgd

It’s certainly good that this game is very rare 2D Side-scroller game. It has some decent actions, too. – Ruliweb Nickname Minchearster

3. In the time that you have been playing kDNF, have you noticed a significant decrease in the number of players? If so, what factor have contributed most to it?

Seeing that they [Neople] were doing this Kiri’s Belief and Trust even after being doomed for doing something similar in Japan, I thought they were crazy. – Ruliweb Nickname Despoiniz (데스피니스)

Kiri’s Belief and Trust certainly halved number of players. – Ruliweb Nickname Minchearster

Kiri’s Belief and Trust is the biggest reason.
Although Reinforce system is necessary evil that reduce number of players, but number of players decreases drastically after that event [Kiri’s Belief and Trust] .
Also, event-like balance patches and still failing to get a balance (between characters) made many players to leave.
In fact, it was reason why I quit DNF.
If someone do 10 amount of investment, there’s character that can’t pull out 5 amount of efficiency while there’s character that get over 100 amount of result.  Someone will definitely feel serious deprivation. –  Ruliweb Nickname Jariche. (자리체.)

4. How do you fell about M.Mage and thief starting with only 2 subclasses, while newer classes are getting all 4?

It’s Nexon who says they make money when balance is not met.
Rather than following demands of users, they will follow money.
On the other hand, if they see it profitable remaining 2 classes for male mage and 1 class for Thief will be released fast. – Ruliweb Nickname Despoiniz (데스피니스)

Right. There are no other reasons; they [Other characters who had their other subclasses patched earlier] were released because they were profitable.
If they considered Male Mage or Thief was more profitable than Female Slayer then they [Male Mage and Thief] would have been released earlier.
Sure, game is kind of business where it’s normal to care the most about making money
But they [Nexon and/or Neople] literally only care about money and don’t care about anything else. – Ruliweb Nickname Rosien (로지엔), This comment was reply to Despoiniz’s comment.

Female Slayer is so popular, and wonder if it’s because it carried DNF so hard at the time of its downfall, but its remaining subclasses were updated in no time.
From that point of view it’s certainly irrational for Thief and Male Mages who went down on the list… But as company they have to make money so it’s hard to say something about it. – Ruliweb Nickname Minchearster

5. How many avatars does the average F.Mage player possess in their wardrobes?

On this question I want to reply like this although it’s a gag.
“Do you remember how many breads you have eaten in your life?” – Ruliweb Nickname Minishao (미니샤오)

kDNF has item called Avatar Inventory Expansion ticket. I wouldn’t explain why. - Ruliweb Nickname Rete1

Closet’s too small that cloths won’t fit into it.

I’m not talking about myself. – Ruliweb Nickname Kimchisa (김치사)
[T/N: Those line breaks are as in original Korean text :)]

2nd DFOG to kDNF

From 2nd DFOG to kDNF, DFO Nexus was included into the scene.

Any Italic texts are Translator's Note.

1. How optimistic are DnF players about the future of DnF and where it's headed? What DnF players generally want to see in the future of DnF? (For example: More balance, more content, more classes, etc) – DFOC Racky, Rec’d 13 Times

Whatever it is, something that’s better.. I’m feeling that everything’s terrible now, and yet the fact that there’s part that gets worse brings chill on my spine. – Ruliweb Nickname Red Ideal, Rec’d 4 Times.

No more classes, but balance [*between classes] please… - Ruliweb Nickname **Fre/nda (프레/ㄴ다), Rec’d 3 Times. [**T/N: For this nickname, refer ‘Trivia’ section of this webpage (http://toarumajutsunoindex.wikia.com/wiki/Frenda_Seivelun)]

I just hope all 2nd awakenings are released properly… It’s already a mess that there’s no hope in this. – Ruliweb Nickname Jariche. (자리체.), Rec’d 2 Times.

2. How much do Koreans "listen" to tier lists when making OV parties? Do they care about what class somebody is playing or do they base it on what kind of gear the person has rather than what their subclass is? – DFOC Branzilla Rec’d 11 Times

In Korea, people go OV via unified server, so Community Party and Regular Party co-exists.
In Regular Party, they do care a lot about class and equipment. On the other hand, Community Party does not care about class as long as equipment standards are met.
Such standards differs from party to party, but in general it’s at least +10 of Rare Weapon [T/N: of at level], 90 Exorcism, Avatar set with Bronze Emblems, and unlocked Sub-equip and Magic Stone Slot. – Ruliweb Nickname Memory No.???, Rec’d 4 Times.
[*T/N: Community Party is type of party where players in same community (not necessarily just a guild, but more like fansite/community) arrange a party, then actually form party in-game.]

As balance between each class is a mess, in Korea there are many cases where people look at class first.
It’s not a good thing, but it just goes like that.
So Neople, take care of this balance please. – Ruliweb Nickname Circlet, Rec’d 4 Times.

It looks like people look at the class first. – Ruliweb Nickname Fre/nda (프레/ㄴ다), Rec’d 1 Time.

3. How well do you think Neople will handle priest second awakenings? – DFOC DarkAsura, Rec’d 6 Times

*‘I kill you, Meow!’ Quality. – Ruliweb Nickname Rikazzing (리카찡), Rec’d 4 Times. [T/N: This is reference to semi-meme from Witch’s 2nd awakening, the homunculus of Pluto]

Crusader = Success, Monk and Avenger = Mixed, Exorcist = Fail
I’m expecting like that. – Ruliweb Nickname Hyulick (
휴릭), Rec’d 2 Times.

As developers already hate priests… It could come out decently unlike many thinks,
but to think about qualities of new skills released nowadays I expect reused sprite + covers large area + [*graphical] effect spammed all over it.
It’s certain that it’s not going to be 2nd awakening that perfects overall characters, for sure. – Ruliweb Nickname Matitneun Sura (
맛있는 수라, lit. Delicious Sura, Sura here could possibly mean Asura class, or old Korean term for ‘Meal for King’), Rec’d 1 Time. Fastest among answers who received same number of recommendation.

4. What do they suggest Veteran players do since the game is starting off completely fresh and we'll have potentially the largest impact on the market. How can we get our economy off on the right foot? – DFON Masaki, Rec’d 8 Times

Whatever it is, there should be constant flow of new users and banning of hack use. Without users, there only exists gold from bots. – Ruliweb Nickname Matitneun Sura (맛있는 수라, lit. Delicious Sura), Rec’d 3 Times

Keep your eyes on Korean servers, and buy avatar/gears that’s going to make good money out of it.. (Book of Classchange avatars, *Absolute Field, Ignis, other dress-up avatars)
It’s not as monopolizing the market, but as you wouldn’t at least lose so much money later when you want them.
Price increments/decrements are so bad, and big merchants’ intervenes into market so seriously, so it’s important to foresee things if you want to save your bacon. – Ruliweb Nickname Jariche. (
자리체.), Rec’d 3 Times. [*I’m assuming he’s talking about Gaiter Belt Avatar from Elementalist Book of Classchange avatar set. Why does he mention it as Absolute Field, refer here(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zettai_ry%C5%8Diki)

Even Korean servers’ item prices go haywire if big merchant starts doing something…QQ – Ruliweb Nickname Gido (기도, lit, ‘Prayer’), Rec’d 1 Times.

5. What nicknames does the kdnf community have for Kiri? – DFON DFOMarra, Rec’d 4 Times

Just put any bad words you can think of and put it on her. – Ruliweb Nickname Hyulick (휴릭), Rec’d 6 Times.

Most of bad words you could use on Female. - Ruliweb Nickname Verhi (베르히), Rec’d 5 Times.

*Fking Kiri Bitch? …How would you translate this? – Ruliweb Nickname Gido (기도), Rec’d 4 Times. [*Original text for ‘Fking Kiri Bitch’ is ‘ㅅㅂ키리년’. The first two incomplete Korean is Net slang for 시발,which is pretty much equivalent of US ‘Fuck’. It’s often used as those incomplete Korean in Korean web to avoid filtering.]

6. What does the PvP community think of the revamped General Arena vs Fair Arena? - DFON Running Wild, Rec’d 2 Times

Personally, I liked fair arena better. No need to worry about repair cost, does not cost [that much] gold, and being able to purchase PvP gears with seals.
Nowadays, I really like the fact that you can enter [PvP Arena] from character level 35, yet character level’s fixed at 85 in PvP arena.
However, you can only equip gears based on your character level in town, and you get more attributes, or stat number’s higher based on item grade [*rarity], that seems like it needs more solution for it.
I wonder what would have happen if they made **PvP Arena 2 as Fair Arena.- Ruliweb Nickname Elraim, Rec’d 3 times. [** I’m uncertain whether he/she wanted to mean Practice Arena or something else by this.]

If you ask my personal opinion, I don’t like it. Fair Arena truly felt like *‘Fight of hands’.. and of course there were many unbalanced classes, but it’s nowhere near what we have nowadays. – Ruliweb Nickname Chitogedaisuki (치토게다이스키, It’s Japanese written in Korean. Lit. [*I] Love Chitoge so much.), Rec’d 2 times. [*I think he/she meant to say like a true competition of skills rather than competition of gear]

1. Item Balance
Back in Fair arena things were good.. Items were mostly fixed, it was from Fair Arena when avatar stats were not applied, and it was also from Fair Arena where players were given separate build for PvP Arena only. Back then we used [1st] awakening actives in regular PvP arena when fooling around. Sometimes higher ranked player with exclusive gear massacred lower ranked players, but it wasn’t so serious.
Nowadays in PvP Arena, all item options are standardized. You can enter with all your gears, but attributes are changed into PvP Arena Standard. Items which were used in old PvP Arena (Particularly Lower level items) are all screwed.
Then what do you equip? Epic items. Options are standardized but it’s not same. Item with highest level requirement and highest rarity became the best gear. To think you need to invest a lot of money proportional to item rarity in DNF, I don’t think it’s a good change. Though, what’s good is the fact that difference between each rarity isn’t all that huge, and just by playing PvP it’s possible to get Legendary (It’s considered right below Epic gears) items. About PvP reward I’ll cover it in later part.

2. Character Balance
DNF was not the game with perfect balance between characters from start. However, In PvP, you can overcome [balance] with practice and study. It’s a balance you can certainly make tier list out of it, but unless it’s dead counter of certain character, for the most part it can be countered. When Fair Arena was changed into current arena, all characters’ speed got overall faster. Thanks to that, characters whose slow speed was major cons became whole lot better in PvP.
Right now the biggest problem in Character Balancing is Neople. It looks like when they are adding new character, they never think about PvP Arena. I can’t forget all those F words around when Vagabond was allowed to enter PvP Arena for the first time.

3. Reward
One thing that current PvP arena is certainly better than Fair Arena is quality of the reward. Players can get more favorable grade of item (Legendary) by PvP, which has attributes that makes it viable choice even for PvE. Additional XP, Growth Potion (exp x2), a pot that could possibly give up to Epic item is little bonus to that.
What’s problem compared to this quality [of reward] is difficulty. Options of PvP items (High base stats, Exclusive appearance, additional stat increase, additional option that’s proportional to PvP rank, being able to switch out to other gears while still benefitting from buff) lured many users into PvP Arena, but even more users turned away from PvP arena due to atrocious condition of obtaining it.
The process of getting PvP exclusive gears are like, players gather points from regular PvP arena, then get to Death match styled consecutive matchup called Coliseum to collect PvP arena only currency, but this process itself is takes very long time, and it takes a lot of those currencies [to obtain PvP gears]. After hundreds of Coliseum runs, unlucky ones would just not get what they desire (It’s work of Neople who loves randomizing things, so even reward from Coliseum is complete random.), and many players are tired out of this. It’s certainly not a thing which PvE players could just start PvP and easily obtain.

To sum it down
Balance depends on players’ circumstance so it’s hard to tell, but new characters tend to be OP (Blame Neople for this!)
Reward is good, but if you want to play PvP just for those rewards, I’d say give up.
If you ask me whether PvP is fun or not without considering anything else, then I would say Yes. Just like it was back in Fair Arena, so does current PvP Arena. – Ruliweb Nickname Nikmandeulgineunjotnaguichaneunilie (닉만들기는ㅈ나귀찮은일이에, lit. ‘t’s so freaking annoying to come up with nickname.’ Original Korean is not complete text possibly due to length limit on nickname in Ruliweb.), Rec’d 1 Time
